Most young men who were once freshmen athletes at the high school level can say that they were hazed at one point or another. I remember hearing some pretty vulgar things, even as a member of the cross country team back in 2011.

Sometimes it's in good fun, and it toughens some young men up a bit. Then there are times when hazing goes entirely too far.

According to WHO13, a two-time state champion wrestler for Roland-Story High School is now being charged with Felony Assault after "allegedly penetrating a victim’s anus with an object."

The news station continues: "According to the Story County Sheriff’s Office, 17-year-old Kade Blume of Roland was charged this week. The alleged assault happened 'in the early part of 2022,' according to a new release. That release says Blume stripped the victim of their clothes and then penetrated the victim’s anus with a pencil. Blume is being charged as an adult. He is scheduled to make his next court appearance on November 28th."

KQWC Radio reports that the incident took place on New Year's Day 2022. The radio station also reached out to the school district for comment, receiving this from Superintendent Matt Patton on Wednesday night:

Our district administration continues to cooperate with local police as they conduct their investigation. Because the alleged incident did not occur on school property or at a school event, it is a law enforcement matter.

The district is considering appropriate disciplinary action for the students allegedly involved in this incident. Due to our legal obligation to protect student confidentiality, we cannot publicly share details about what this action will be. Please know that we take this matter very seriously.

We will continue to work with local law enforcement as needed. In the meantime, our focus will be on our students and avoiding any unnecessary disruptions to the learning process.

Local law enforcement shared that they received an anonymous tip about the alleged incident and that multiple wrestlers took part in the assault. Another wrestler is being charged in juvenile court.
