Iowa Middle Schooler Expelled After Bringing Gun to School

This story should be shocking, and I wish it was. Pro second amendment or not, it's disgusting that this has become a normal thing in our country.

Amid school shootings that have taken place year after year in the United States, stories of students bringing guns to school have proliferated as well. One such story took place in Iowa this month.

According to WHO13, a middle school student in the Johnston School District has now been expelled after he brought a firearm onto school grounds earlier this month. The news station reports that "Superintendent Laura Kacer recommended expulsion during a closed session."

Earlier in September, the school district sent out an email that said a few students saw the individual had possession of the weapon, but "no one was threatened and it was never brandished." Local authorities in Johnston have launched an investigation into what exactly happened.

Following the incident, officials in the district have begun a new clear bag policy at games and events inside Dragon Stadium -- where Johnston High School plays football and has track and field meets. All bags and purses are already checked by security upon entering the stadium, according to the Johnston School District website.

After seeing a couple of incidents here at the beginning of the school year and then anytime where you have an event with thousands of people there is room to improve safety. So as part of our focus on safety, we decided to implement that clear bag policy to just increase safety at our stadium when we have thousands of people attending our football games.
