As of Tuesday, the government shutdown has tied for the longest in American history.

As the government shutdown continues, one of the huge issues are continuing on SNAP benefits. People who normally get them will only get about half of their monthly benefit for November.

Meanwhile, the Figge Art Museum has announced free admission for people who use SNAP/EBT benefits. The museum is also hosting a food and fund drive for River Bend Food Bank.

This comes as the Figge expands it's involvement in Museums For All, which is a national initiative that works to increase access to high-quality museum experiences for people of all backgrounds.

Now, at all times in a year, visitors can present an EBT or SNAP card along with a photo I.D. and get in free.

On Saturday, November 8th from 12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. the Figge will be collected food and money donations for River Bend Food Bank.

Those who donate will get a ticket for free admission that's good at any point within the next year. Monetary donors will be entered to win a raffle gift basket that includes:

  • A donated original artwork
  • A Figge Benefactor Membership
  • Additional merchandise and swag

According to a release from the Figge, every dollar raised for River Bend Food Bank helps provide five meals to those in need in our community. River Bend said their most needed food items are: canned fruit, canned meats, tuna, peanut butter, soups, stews, and chili.

Some activities happening this Saturday at the Figge include:

  • Programs & Activities 10:30 a.m.
