‘No Kings’ Rally, March Planned for Washington Park in Dubuque
A large slate of protests will take place in a slew of different cities across the country on June 14th, and a local non-profit has one planned in Dubuque that very day.
Much like his first term in office, President Donald Trump's second term has been rife with backlash from the public, and consequently, protests big and small across the country. A recurring group of protests, known as "No Kings" rallies, have been particularly common. The "No Kings" movement started with the 50501 Movement (50 protests, 50 states, one movement), and at the center of it all is the fact of the matter that American democracy has no place for a "King," or one ruler.

They’ve defied our courts, deported Americans, disappeared people off the streets, attacked our civil rights, and slashed our services. The corruption has gone too. far. No thrones. No crowns. No kings - per NoKings.org
Details About Dubuque's "No Kings" Protest:
On Saturday, June 14th, Indivisible Dubuque County will host a "No Kings" rally and march of their own in Washington Park, located at 700 Locust Street, at 12pm. June 14th is significant for a few reasons. For one, it's President Trump's birthday, and it's also the date he plans to have a large scale parade to commemorate the Army's 250th birthday, as well as his own.
Per a press release from Indivisible Dubuque County, the rally will be held in response "to the increasing authoritarian excesses and to stand against the corruption and abuses of power from Donald Trump and his enablers." Indivisible Dubuque County adds that they will focus on Iowa residents as opposed to "the million-dollar spectacle Donald Trump has planned to honor himself."
Two Scheduled Speakers as well as a "Silent March:"
Nathan Sage and Jakyra Bryant are scheduled to speak at the rally. An Iowa native, Sage is a sports broadcaster, current Director of the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce, three-time deployed Iraq veteran, and candidate for US Senate. Bryant presently lives in the Quad Cities, and is a University of Dubuque alum, educator, poet, and community activist.
A silent march will follow the rally at 12:30pm, with the path planned to travel along Locust Street, turning right at 15th Street, and continuing to Jackson Park, at 1500 Main Street in Dubuque.
The Purpose of the "No Kings" Protest:
Jessica Oberbroeckling, Co-chair of Indivisible Dubuque County, said in the organization's press release that the group continues to stand up and fight back:
We are watching the current regime attempt to gut social safety net programs that would rip away health care, food and jobs from Americans. Each day we hear stories of individuals pulled off the streets with no due process. And now, they are trying to sneak in legislation that would strip away the power of the federal courts to hold the executive branch in contempt, weakening our checks and balances. This is not normal. It is obvious corruption of our government - Jessica Oberbroeckling, per Indivisible Dubuque County's press release
Indivisible Dubuque County is itself part of the "Indivisible" movement, which is driven by a vision of a real and fair democracy that is of, by, and for the people. It itself is a network of thousands of local groups comprised of millions of activists.
