Kurt Warner Named to Northern Iowa 2026 Hall of Fame Class
Iowa legend and iconic sports figure Kurt Warner has been named to the 2026 University of Northern Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame. He will be enshrined in the university's hall come September.
My first reaction: how the hell was Kurt Warner not already in the UNI Hall of Fame? I'm not going to pretend to know the intricacies of the process, and whether or not it's an annual or sporadic ceremony. The latter is my only assumption as to why arguably the most accomplished athlete in Iowa history is not in his university's Hall of Fame.

Kurt Warner's Story is One of the Best the NFL Ever Produced:
If you're from Iowa, or even an NFL fan, you don't need the story of Kurt Warner rehashed. Warner was one of the most incredible players of his era, the only undrafted player to be named both an NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP. After spending a couple seasons with the Arena League's Iowa Barnstormers, the Northern Iowa graduate found himself on the St. Louis Rams.
He eventually took the starting quarterback position and led the Rams to a Super Bowl victory in 1999. He would later lead the Arizona Cardinals to the Super Bowl in 2008 only to lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is unequivocally one of the greatest Cinderella stories in sports history.
Kurt Warner's Time with the UNI Panthers:
Perhaps one of the reasons it took over 30 years for Warner to be inducted in the UNI Hall of Fame is the fact that his UNI career is not as decorated as you might assume. Warner only started 12 games for the Panthers during his senior year, throwing for over 2,700 yards and 17 touchdowns en route to an 8-4 record.
Warner was named Gateway Football Conference Offensive Player of the Year during his senior season. Per KWWL, he will be inducted alongside five other former UNI Panther student athletes. Retired UNI radio announcer Gary Rima and PA announcer Bob Justis will also be honored at the ceremony set for September 11th in Cedar Falls.
