The NCAA came down hard the Iowa State men's wrestling program with disciplinary action that resulted in a year of probation as well as a hefty fine.

Per AP News, Iowa State's men's wrestling program is now under a year of probation and has received a $25,000 fine following the NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions ruling that a booster of the school had "impermissible contact" with two transfers, one of whom hadn't entered the transfer portal at the time of discussions with the university.

Inside the NCAA's Punishment for Iowa State's Men's Wrestling Team:

On Tuesday, the NCAA announced that they had identified Chris Perry as the offending party. Perry was working as a regional training center assistant during spring 2025, and committed the infraction after then-head coach Kevin Dresser communicated with the outgoing coach of another school. During that conversation, there was interest expressed in recruiting two of its athletes.

Shortly thereafter, Perry contacted the prospective transfers, who both committed to Iowa State the same day they entered the transfer portal. The Iowa State Athletic Department released a statement following the ruling:

We cooperated fully with the NCAA enforcement staff to thoroughly investigate and resolve the infraction. We accept responsibility and the associated penalties - Iowa State Athletic Department, per AP News

In addition to the yearlong probation and $25,000 fine, the NCAA imposed two separate one-week bans on recruiting communication with transfers for the men's wrestling program during the first week of the notification-of-transfer window for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 academic years.

Perry cannot have contact with the program for two years, and a 10% suspension from the men's wrestling season for the Dresser, who is now the director of men's and women's wrestling, during the upcoming 2026-27 academic year.
