Hillcrest to Bring ‘Jackass’ Alum Brandon Novak to Dubuque

A former professional skateboarder, Jackass alum, and motivational speaker will be in Dubuque in September sharing his inspiring story of addiction and recovery.

On Saturday, September 12th, Hillcrest Family Services will welcome Brandon Novak to Dubuque. Novak rose to fame as part of the CKY crew, a group of friends and relatives in the West Chester, PA area, which also included Bam Margera. From there, Novak was a staple presence in shows like Viva La Bam and several of the Jackass movie sequels.

Brandon Novak's Descent Into Addiction and Story of Sobriety:

While perfecting his skateboarding skills and being a part of numerous film and TV productions, Novak struggled for over 20 years with a variety of addictions. Throughout his early life, he was addicted to cocaine, heroin, pain pills, and alcohol, and spent most of his birthdays between the ages of 19 and 35 in jail or a rehab.

CKY and Jackass devotees such as myself likely know a little bit about Novak's well-documented struggles, recovery efforts, and relapses over the years. Everything changed for Novak on May 25th, 2015. He's been sober ever since. And he's predicated his life on traveling around the country to share his story, and help others get sober.

Hillcrest Brings Novak to Dubuque:

On September 12th, Novak will speak at the University of Dubuque's Heritage Center in honor of "Recovery Month." A meet and greet with Brandon will take place at 2:30pm, followed by him giving his presentation at 3pm. Following the presentation, an expert panel will discuss addiction and Novak's story a little after 4pm. The event is expected to conclude around 5pm:
