Whether University of Iowa alumni or fans consider this a premonition ahead of Saturday's "Cy-Hawk" football game remains to be seen, but with new enrollment data just unveiled, the Cedar Rapids Gazette says that after ten years, UI has reclaimed its status is the largest campus in the state.

A report came out Thursday stating that enrollment for the current fall semester is at 30,015 total undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, which is up slightly over last fall’s 29,909.

Iowa State, in Ames, was not far behind, reporting their numbers at 29,969. For them, it's a large increase from last fall, when enrollment was at 25,808, but down overall since 2016 when ISU's campus enrollment peaked at 36,291. The good news in Ames is that their new, first-year enrollment numbers are up-- 5,387 last fall to 5,728 this year, outdoing even its pre-pandemic count of 4,970 new students, and marking its third-best tally ever in that category.

As for the University of Northern Iowa campus in Cedar Falls, according to the Gazette,  "its total fall enrollment of 8,949 is down 3 percent from last fall’s count and marks the lowest total enrollment for the Cedar Falls campus in 55 years, since its 8,213-student body in 1967."

Who has the most home-state students enrolled? 91 percent of all UNI students reportedly come from Iowa, while according to the Iowa State University Office of the Registrar, 56 percent of their student body this fall is from Iowa. At the University of Iowa, that number is 54 percent.
