New Beef Plant Coming To Iowa After Pandemic-Related Delays

A beef-processing plant that should have broken ground in 2022 will finally start construction this spring.

The planned Cattlemen's Heritage Beef Company beef processing plant in Mills County is expected to bring billions of dollars in revenue to Iowa. In an article in KETV Chad Tentinger, the land developer on the project says its location will be key to the plant’s success.

The location of the plant will be on a northwest plot near Interstate 29 and Bunge Avenue.

It is close to a major metro so we will have a workforce that is available to us. It's in the middle of all great shipping lanes and in the heart of the great Midwest cattle.

Including construction, the project would create 3,800 jobs. Of those jobs, 800 would be permanent.

Cattlemen’s contracted with Creighton University to study the economic impact of the plant. The study showed that the plant will generate around $8 billion in revenue for Iowa through 2028.

Tentinger told KETV that the new processing plant would help family-owned operations have a chance to be profitable.

We are running almost at full capacity in the Midwest, of the capacity of the packing industry, and my hope is that this takes some pressure off because every time we have a hiccup in processing it recks the market.

Cattlemen’s is currently offering shackle spaces to producers.
