A couple of recent recalls over the last two weeks are asking Iowans to take a second look into their snack closets.

Both beef jerky and raisins are raising health concerns that led to nationwide recalls.

Around 497 pounds of beef jerky products have been recalled after possible adulteration with Listeria monocytogenes.  The jerky was made by Magnolia Provision Company in Tennesee.

According to the US Department of Agriculture, the following beef jerky was produced on August 25 and the labels that were included in the recall were;

  • 2-oz. packages of “BEEF JERKY EXPERIENCE CHOP HOUSE STYLE PRIME RIB FLAVORED BEEF JERKY” with “EXP 8/25/23” displayed on the back of the package.
  • 8-oz. packages of “BEEF JERKY EXPERIENCE CHOP HOUSE STYLE PRIME RIB FLAVORED BEEF JERKY” with “EXP 8/25/23” displayed on the back of the package.
  • 16-oz. packages of “BEEF JERKY EXPERIENCE CHOP HOUSE STYLE PRIME RIB FLAVORED BEEF JERKY” with “EXP 8/25/23” displayed on the back of the package.

The jerky was subjected to the contaminant in a third-party lab. A product contact sample test came back positive, initiating the recall.

The second snack recall comes from a midwestern snack company.

Muktanand Foods Inc. is recalling its 14 oz packages of Golden Raisins due to mislabeling of possible allergens.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, the raisins contain undeclared sulfates, which put people with sensitivities to sulfates at risk of reactions.

The product comes in 14 oz packages with clear packaging labeled UPC Code 8904 1704 10327. According to the FDA, all ANKUR GOLDEN RAISIN 14Oz packages are impacted by the recall.

In both cases, people who have purchased these snacks are urged to throw them away or return them to where they were purchased.
