Iowa Family Plans Therapy Stables After Son’s Death

One Iowa family is taking the grief they feel every day to help others who are struggling.

Jed Riesselman passed away after a farm accident at 4 years in August 2021.

Now, Jed's family, led by his parents Rob and Megan Riesselman, are taking his memory to do good for others. The Riessemans have started their own nonprofit mental health/grief facility called Stables 4 Jed. According to the Carroll Times Herald, the facility will be on their farm and focus on horse therapy.

Equine therapy, or horse therapy, is an experiential therapy that involves the patient interacting with horses. It is used for the treatment of a wide variety of different cases including anxiety, depression, and grief.

In an article in the Carroll Times Herald, Rob says;

I didn’t, of course, want to be the one to have to do this, but there is a need and somebody needs to step up and do it. This isn’t about a legacy. I don’t like that term. I don’t want this attention, but other people with grief need this attention, and that is what I am here for.

This facility will be built from donations and sit on 5 acres of the Reisselman’s farm which will include an arena for counselors using equine therapy.
