My wife spent the better part of her young life in Keokuk, Iowa so my family knows a thing or two about the mall there. A new video investigation allows you to take a virtual lonely walk through the very little that is left in what used to be a shopping hub in southeast Iowa.

Northern Films on YouTube just shared this video a couple days ago as they walked through what is now known as the River City Mall in Keokuk, Iowa. As the official website points out, it used to be called the Keosippi Plaza. There's not much left inside of this mall now.

The video is more than a walkthrough of what's left inside the Keokuk mall. They also talk about the interesting history of how this shopping center came to be in the 1960's after a mysterious fire that only razed buildings that were planned to be demolished where the mall now sits.

I remember there used to be a very popular Diamond Dave's in the mall before many stores starting shutting down and moving out in the early 2000's.

There are still a handful of businesses open in various parts of what is now the River City Mall. There's a Dollar General and the official site lists many others although I am fairly certain the list is not updated to reflect the many that have departed.

Let's face it. The era of shopping malls has come and gone and will likely never be what they were decades ago. However, the River City Mall in Keokuk, Iowa is one of the few that you can still walk through and remember what used to be.
