The FBI in Illinois is warning that there are currently two perpetrators that are pretending to be agents in an effort to rip you off and they've provided details of what and who you should watch out for.

This new alert from the FBI's Chicago office on their social media pages details two individuals who are claiming they are agents and are making demands from potential victims.

Here's the text of the FBI alert in case you can't see their post on your device:

"Scam Alert: FBI Chicago is seeking the public's help in identifying two unknown suspects posing as Special Agents, prosecutors, or federal law enforcement and are attempting to scam individuals out of money by claiming they are possible victims or suspects of a fraud investigation"

I have never seen an instance where a legitimate law enforcement officer will ask you for money or any kind of funds over the phone. There is a growing trend where scammers will pretend to be officers and ask for a transfer of funds or gift cards which a real Illinois law enforcement agency will never do.

What can you do if you've been contacted by one of these fake FBI agents in Illinois?

The FBI in Chicago says you can submit a tip online that can be anonymous if you prefer.
