Forbes has compiled a list of the richest person in all 50 states. Who holds the honor in Iowa and how did they get so rich?
Iowa's richest person is Harry Stine of Adel, who Forbes reports is worth $3.4 billion! Stine is a 73-year old father of four who made his fortune in agriculture, via seed genetics for soybeans. Stine ended up making deals with Monsanto and DuPont and Stine Seed now works on corn as well. His seed is bred to excel when planted densely, increasing harvests. Harry is dyslexic and mildly autistic and is a master at data and math.
The wealthiest person in the U.S. is Bill Gates of Microsoft. He hails from Washington. His net worth is $78.8 billion. Second on the list is Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway at $70.2 billion.
