Iowa’s Maddie Poppe Will Return to ‘American Idol’ in May
It's been a few years since Clarksville, Iowa-native Maddie Poppe has graced the American Idol stage, but that hiatus will come to an end in May! According to a new article from Deadline, Maddie is set to perform on a big Idol reunion!
On Monday, May 2nd, ABC will air a new special called The Great Idol Reunion in honor of the show's 20th anniversary. According to Deadline, there are a whole bunch of popular winners and contestants that will be featured on the special, and that includes Maddie Poppe, who won season 16 of American Idol back in 2018. She is set to perform with the season 16 runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson, who is also currently her boyfriend! There's no word yet on what the duo will be singing, but we can't wait to find out!
Maddie Poppe has been very busy in the four years since her Idol win. Her debut album Whirlwind was released in 2019, followed by the Christmas from Home EP in 2020. She's played shows all over Iowa and beyond, and even performed on the Kelly Clarkson Show last December. She's been working on new music recently, and just last week she released a new song called "One That Got Away!"
Other Idol favorites to be featured on the special include Ruben Studdard, Jordin Sparks, Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, Kris Allen, David Cook, and more. You can check out the reunion when it airs on ABC May 2nd from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
