Uh-oh, it looks like Stanley’s mugs are giving Iowans more than just a caffeine jolt – they're causing some unintentional burns!
The company is recalling over 2.6 million of its Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs, because the lids have a nasty habit of popping off when they get a little too hot or twisted.
That’s a recipe for spilled coffee and burns, which is definitely not the morning pick-me-up anyone wants. At least, I don't think it is.  Maybe that's how you take your coffee, hot and in your lap or down your front.

How Long Has This Been Going On?

Fox 16 reports these mugs have been on store shelves since June 2016 and are available in a bunch of colors and sizes, so if you’ve got one of the affected ones, stop using it right away!

That's the peculiar part.  They just found out about this? Or they got enough burns that it smelled like trouble?  2016 seems like a long way back.  Do you remember what you were doing in 2016?  If you were burned by Stanley, I bet ya do!

Can Coffee Burns Be That Bad?

In a word, yes, to the third degree. There was a customer at a fast food restaurant years ago named Stella Lieback who sued the company because of their hot coffee and flimsy cups, which caused 3rd degree burns on her body.

There was much hubbub about the case, and many don't know the facts. Here they are: Liebeck Vs. McDonald's Restaurants.  In short, hot liquids and laps don't mix well.  Unless you are aware of some lost world of Atlantis fix to this problem, better safe than burned!

Which Mugs are Impacted?

There are specific model numbers for the mugs impacted by the recall.  The stainless steel travel mugs were sold in a variety of colors, including white, black, and green, in 12, 16, and 20-ounce sizes with a polypropylene lid.
