When you have a dog, over time you learn about their traits and characteristics. You start to learn about things that make them happy and things that don't. It doesn't take a rocket scientist, it's the same thing as learning about things your human friends like and don't like.

My wife and I adopted a puppy about 1 month ago and in the past month, we've learned that Nona likes to chase leaves, pick up just about anything she can with her mouth, lay in our bed, play with our cats, eat, and go for walks. Typical puppy stuff. What we didn't expect was for her to love watching this children's show. At least we think she does.

This has become a pretty popular trend on social media and there are thousands of videos like this one. Dog owners are showing off their fur babies enjoying a show that millions of young kids around the world watch.

Does Your Dog Enjoy Bluey?

My wife had seen this trend of owners filming their dogs watching Bluey. If you've never heard of this children's show, it's about a Blue Healer Puppy. According to IMDB,

Bluey follows the adventures of a lovable and inexhaustible six-year-old Blue Heeler puppy who lives with her dad, mum, and four-year-old little sister, Bingo. In every episode, Bluey uses her limitless Blue Heeler energy to play elaborate games that unfold in unpredictable and hilarious ways.

When I first heard about this trend I kind of rolled my eyes and thought there was no chance this was true and you can catch dogs staring at your TV almost anytime something moves. So, my wife and I put on Bluey to see if our 3-month-old puppy would watch and of course...she stared at the TV screen for about 5 straight minutes.

Is There A Reason For This?

I'm still a little skeptical and if you are too, I was curious if there was a reason for dogs appearing to really enjoy this TV show meant for children. Supposedly, it has to do with the colors of the characters.

For a long time, many animal experts believed that dogs only saw in black and white and they were colorblind. Recently, scientists have discovered that isn't true and that dogs have dichromatic vision, according to The Chronicle. This means that dogs have two types of color receptors in their eyes. "The two types of cones in a dog's eyes means they can see a limited spectrum of just blue and yellow wavelengths, while they lack a cone that lets them see red light."

Supposedly this means that dogs perceive the world in shades of blue, and yellow, with reds appearing as shades of grey.

Bluey Characters

The main character, Bluey, isn't the only character in the show that's blue. Bandit, Uncle Stripe, Grandma Chris, Grandpa Bob, and Cousin Socks are all colors that dogs can recognize. Bluey's mom and sisters are red healers but appear on screen as more yellowish and orange. Bluey's entire family is made up of colors your dog can see!
