An eastern Iowa woman is in jail after authorities say she tried to murder her dad last month.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office reports they were called to a residence on W Maple Street in Central City just after 9:35 p.m. on Monday, April 17. They were responding to a report of a shot being fired into the residence.

When deputies arrived, they found that 60-year-old Mark Ward was in the house when "a bullet narrowly missed Mark Ward as he was in bed asleep at the time of the shooting." Mark Ward and his 24-year-old daughter, Alexis Ward, live in the home.

In a media release, the Linn County Sheriff's Office says "it is believed that Alexis Ward purposely discharged a firearm into the residence with the intent to commit the murder of Mark Ward."

Wednesday night, May 3, just before 9:25 p.m., Alexis Ward was arrested and taken to the Linn County Correctional Center in Cedar Rapids. She is being held on three charges. They are Attempted Murder, Assault Domestic Abuse by Display or Use of a Weapon, and Reckless Use of a Firearm.

The incident remains under investigation.
