Iowa Twins Broke A World Record Before They Could Even Walk
Two little girls from eastern Iowa have been Guinness World Record holders since the day they were born.
Keeley and Kambry Ewoldt were diagnosed with Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome right before their mother, Jade, hit the 18-week mark in her pregnancy.
Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome is s a rare pregnancy condition affecting identical twins or other multiples.
Luckily, they were able to have a surgery that pushed back their delivery date a few weeks.
These two identical twins were born at 22 weeks and a day to mom Jade of Jesup, making them the most premature twins in the world. The girls actually celebrated their 3rd birthday last November. You can read more about that here.
"They are proving to the world that feto viability has changed," Jade remarked.
"I don't think people really understand unless you go through something like this...the impact something like this could have on you as a family."
Jade's water broke when she was only 22 weeks along in her pregnancy. At this point, the mother had done her research and was advocating for her and her babies to be taken to the University of Iowa Stead Family's Children's Hospital.
"It's really important to remember that while some hospitals are saying this is impossible...the decision making for the family, it truly takes a tribe of people to withstand all of these challenges."
Now, Jade is using the recognition that this World Record brings to give back. She's formed an organization called Keeley & Kambry's Tribe with a goal of "educating the world that viability has changed" and showing support for mothers and children who are affected by it.
Over the next few months, the group will be doing a whole bunch of different events for charity and to raise awareness.
On June 25th, Keeley & Kambry's Tribe will be putting on a Summer Kickoff at the Jesup Country Club. The event will have a bags tournament, drinks, food from Bowls of Love, and a performance from American Standard.
