Six Teams From the State of Iowa to Play in NCAA Tournament

The state of Iowa will have six different teams in action during the NCAA Tournaments which begin this week. Let's get right to the teams that are in, who they'll be playing, and when.

The Drake men's basketball team was one of four teams from Iowa to win their conference tournament. The Bulldogs captured the Missouri Valley Men's Basketball Tournament title last weekend. They've been led throughout the season by the MVC Player of the Year (winner of the Larry Bird Trophy), Tucker DeVries. The sophomore also won the tournament MVP.

DeVries, the son of Bulldogs coach Darian DeVries (below), has averaged 19 points per game this season.

Drake is 27-7 on the season. They're the #12 seed in the Midwest Region of the NCAA Tournament and will play #5 seed Miami of Florida (25-7) on Friday at 6:15 Iowa time in Albany, New York. The game is televised by TBS.

The Drake women's basketball team won the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament earlier today, guaranteeing an NCAA Tournament berth.

Drake defeated Belmont 89-71 to win the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The 22-9 Bulldogs are led by senior forward Maggie Bair. A First-Team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection, Bair has averaged 16.9 points and 8.6 rebounds per game this season.

The Bulldogs are the #12 seed and will play #5 seed Louisville (23-11) on Saturday in Austin, Texas in Seattle Regional 4. Drake will tip off at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN 2.

The Iowa State Cyclones men's basketball team is 19-13 entering the tournament. After back-to-back wins over top-ten-ranked Baylor, one in the Big 12 Tournament, Iowa State lost to #3 Kansas on Friday.

Iowa State's leading scorer this season is Jaren Holmes (#13 below). The senior guard is averaging 13.4 points per game.

Iowa State is the #6 seed in the Midwest Region. They'll do battle against an #11 seed. Their opponent will be either Mississippi State or Pittsburgh. Those two teams play in a First Four game in Dayton, Ohio at 8:10 p.m. (Iowa time) Tuesday night. Iowa State will play the winner on Friday at 2:10 p.m. (Iowa time) in Greensboro, North Carolina. The game will be televised by TruTV.

The Iowa State women's basketball team defeated the top seed Texas 61-51 in today's Big 12 Championship game. It was the Cyclones first tournament title in 22 years.

Iowa State is led by Big 12 Player of the Year and tournament MVP Ashley Joens (below). A senior, Joens leads the team in both scoring (21.3 points per game) and rebounding (9.6 per game).

The 22-9 Cyclone women will open NCAA Tournament Play on Saturday against Toledo (28-4) in Seattle Regional 3. Iowa State is the #5 seed while Toledo is seeded 12th. The game will be played in Knoxville, Tennessee, and is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. (Iowa time) The game will be televised by ESPN 2.

The Iowa men's basketball team is 19-13 as they enter the NCAA Tournament. The Hawkeyes are led by First-Team All Big Ten Selection Kris Murray.

Murray is Iowa's leading scorer and rebounder this season. The junior averages 20.4 points, and 7.9 rebounds per game.

Iowa is the #8 seed and will play #9 seed Auburn (20-12) in the Midwest Region in Birmingham, Alabama. The game will take place on Thursday at 5:50 p.m. Iowa time. Auburn is coached by former Iowa assistant Bruce Pearl. Thursday's game will be the first meeting between the two programs and will be televised by TNT.

The Iowa women's basketball team won the Big Ten Tournament Title last weekend with a blowout win over Ohio State.

The Hawkeye women are 26-6 and are led by junior guard Caitlin Clark. The favorite for National Player of the Year, Clark has already been named Big Ten Player of the Year and First-Team All-Big Ten.

The Hawkeye women are the #2 seed in Seattle Regional 4 and will play #15 seed Southeast Louisiana (21-9) in the opening round on Friday in Iowa City. #7 Florida State and #10 Georgia will play the other game at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Friday. Tickets go on sale Monday morning at 9 a.m.

According to the University of Iowa, the Friday game between Florida State and Georgia will begin at 12:30 on ESPN 2. Iowa and Southeast Louisiana will tip-off at approximately 3 p.m. on ESPN.
