Last month, she was named the queen of her county fair. Saturday night in Des Moines, she beat out 102 others to be named state fair queen.

The queen of the 2016 Iowa State Fair is Amanda Riniker of Winthrop, in Buchanan County, where she was named fair queen early last month. Riniker is 20 and a graduate of East Buchanan High School. She's attending Wartburg College in Waverly, where she majors in neuroscience and has a double minor of biology and leadership. She hopes to become an occupational therapist.

Outside the classroom, Amanda plays volleyball and is on the track and field team at Wartburg. She also coaches Winthrop Little League and Special Olympics Team Track and Field.

Amanda is the daughter of Bruce and Jeanette Riniker of Winthrop. She wins a $5,000 scholarship courtesy of the Iowa Governor's Office as well as a $3,000 scholarship courtesy of the Iowa State Fair. She also just earned a bunch of duties, that I bet she's enjoying every second of. Congratulations, Amanda!

The 2015 Iowa State Fair Queen was Ellen Schlarmann, from Monticello in Jones County.
