Majority of Iowa Republicans Want Trump To Run in 2024

A week ago, Donald Trump told New York Magazine in an interview that it wasn't a matter of if he'd be running for president again in 2024, but when he'd announce his decision to run a third campaign.

According to the article, the former president said that he's unsure if he'll announce before or after the midterm elections in November.

Date of the announcement not being a factor, 57 percent of Iowa Republicans say they support his decision to run again in 2024, per the Des Moines Register.

Another 33 percent say they hope he does not run and 10 percent are unsure where they stand.

The Register obtained the statistics from Selzer & Co., who conducted the poll. It elaborates on how many participated in the poll, along with further statistics: "811 Iowa adults, including 597 likely voters, July 10-13. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points for questions asked of all Iowans and 4 percentage points for questions asked of likely voters."

The article continues, referencing when people think Trump should announce, given current feelings on Presient Joe Biden, who just tested positive for COVID-19: "Some Republican operatives believe (Trump) should wait to make an announcement until after the November midterm elections to avoid taking the focus off Biden, whose approval ratings have plummeted amid rising inflation and soaring gas prices."

Only 23 percent of people in the Iowa poll hope Biden runs for president again, while 67 percent hope he doesn't. Nine percent are unsure.

Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, is currently another popular option on the right to run for the Republican position in 2024.

The Hill lists former VP Mike Pence, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as other possible Republican bids.

Should Biden not run in 2024, The Hill lists names that are often linked to the possible democratic presidential run: Vice President Kamala Harris, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, senator from Massachusetts Elizabeth Warren, and senator from Vermont Bernie Sanders.
