It was a departure that was not much of a surprise to the Iowa football program. Junior quarterback Tyler Wiegers announced that he is transferring to Eastern Michigan.

It wasn't long ago that Wiegers pushed Nate Stanely for the starting quarterback position with the Hawkeyes. But Stanely won the job and has another three years of eligibility. Wiegers, who graduated in December, wanted playing time and who could blame him.

Wiegers is Michigan native so the move will be a homecoming of sorts. He is already enrolled in classes at Eastern Michigan. The move means that there will be a new backup in Iowa City this year. Redshirt freshman Peyton Mansell and incoming freshman Spencer Petras will compete for that job.
