Iowa Man Charged With Assaulting Man Because Of Way He Parked
An early-morning trip to a central Iowa convenience store last weekend turned violent, much to the dismay of a man who says he was assaulted.
It happened at approximately 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning at the Circle K gas station along Highway 141 in Perry, in Dallas County.
According to The Perry News, Scotty L. Hays of Perry got violent with another individual after the victim says Hays "became upset at him for parking in front of the store." The Perry Police Department was called to the scene for a report of one guy trying to pull another guy out of a car at the convenience store. You talk about your unusual calls...
When police arrived, the victim told authorities that he feared for his safety after Hays "grabbed his leg and kept asking him if he wanted to fight." The man also told police that Hays hit the mirror on the driver's side of the vehicle and "kicked his door and then he kicked his front bumper as he attempted to drive away." Court records indicate the 2010 Chevy Camaro the unnamed victim was driving sustained approximately $500 in damage.
Hays, 30, was charged with 4th Degree Criminal Mischief and Assault. He's scheduled to appear in court on Monday, April 12.
According to Iowa Courts Online, Hays has faced a number of legal problems in recent years. In 2018, he pleaded guilty to Domestic Abuse Assault. In 2020, he was convicted of attempted 2nd Degree Burglary and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations. The 2020 conviction came after The Perry News says Hays had to be tasered by police after kicking a police officer in the leg during an arrest in December of 2019.
