Iowa Man Appears Before Judge, Claims to Be Jesus
Last weekend, 25-year-old Troy Ruggles of Des Moines got into a shootout with officers from the Des Moines Police Department. His apartment was left with 20 bullet holes, but thankfully no one was injured. Ruggles was taken into custody and earlier this week he appeared for his arraignment with a big surprise for the judge.
In Tuesday morning's arraignment the judge asked him, "You're Mr. Ruggles, is that correct?," he responded, "I am not." The judge then asked, "Who are you?" That's when Ruggles told the judge, "I am Jesus!" The judge immediately ended the hearing.
Saturday night, November 16, Des Moines police were called to the home of Ruggles because he was reportedly acting strangely. Hours later, at approximately 5 am Sunday, November 17, police were called again. This time, when they arrived, Ruggles reportedly started to shoot at them. A shootout with police followed, with neighbors being evacuated and Ruggles being arrested more than three-and-a-half hours later.
According to Fox News, Des Moines Police Sergeant Paul Parizek said Ruggles is "a little hyper-religious." If convicted, Ruggles faces up to 25 years in prison.
