Iowa is One of the Hardest-Working States in America
Congratulations, Iowans; we were not named one of the laziest states in America! The website WalletHub recently ranked all 50 states on how hard-working their residents are. How exactly did they come up with the ranks? The article states:
"To determine where Americans work the hardest, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 10 key indicators. They range from average workweek hours to share of workers with multiple jobs to annual volunteer hours per resident."
Iowa just broke the top 15, coming in at number 14 on the list. There are two overall categories, and we did fairly well in both. We ranked 14th place for "direct work factors" and 17th for "indirect work factors." We ranked REALLY well in the sub-category of "lowest idle youth," coming in first place out of all 50 states!
The top five hardest-working states overall are:
- Alaska
- North Dakota
- Wyoming
- South Dakota
- Nebraska
On the other hand, here are the least hard-working states:
- Michigan
- Rhode Island
- West Virginia
- New Mexico
- Oregon

Keep working hard, Iowans! Maybe next year we can break the top 10!
