More than likely, you'll chuckle to yourself when you read this. Many of us have phones that work on 5G now, and LTE at the very least. But, for those who haven't upgraded in a few years, you might be forced to move to a newer device.

The Iowa Utilities Board is informing customers that mobile carriers will be shutting down their 3G networks, making older phones no longer work, even for calls to 911 for emergencies.

Make sure your phone is on 4G, and supports Voice Over LTE (VoLTE or HD Voice).

Make sure you also check your tablets, medical devices, smartwatches, vehicle's SOS services (like OnStar), home security system, and other devices all are able to function on 4G.

Carriers plan to begin phasing out the service this month. For more information, visit the FCC's website or contact your service provider directly.
