The Iowa men's basketball team went into their Big Ten/ACC Challenge game against Syracuse a bit shorthanded. The Hawkeyes went with a rotation of just eight scholarship players. It all worked out in the end as the Hawkeyes topped Syracuse 68-54.

Once again center Luka Garza led the way for Iowa. The junior scored 23 points and pulled down 9 rebounds in the win. Garza was big for the Hawks in the first half as the clung to a 30-29 lead at the half. In the second half, the shooters came out to play. Iowa shot 52% from the field and had only 4 turnovers in the second half. Jordan Bohannon looked like himself and scored 17 points. Joe Wieskamp added 13. The Hawkeyes made 11 three-pointers on the night.

Iowa improves to 6-2 on the year. The Hawkeyes were playing without C.J. Fredricks and Cordel Pemsl. They'll need both of those guys back as the schedule is about to get brutal. Up next for Iowa is their Big Ten opener at #4 Michigan.
