Iowa City Looks For Answer To Deer Problem
Iowa City is the latest community in the state to look for answers to a rising urban deer population. The city is reportedly looking at allowing hunting to occur within the city limits.
A recent study shows that the deer population in Iowa City has risen significantly over the past 10 years. City officials say no deer management strategy was used during that time period to help control the size of the herd. Citizens have called in complaints about the deer population, especially after they hit one with their vehicle.
Iowa City is now considering a proposal that would allow bow hunters to hunt within the city to help lower the number of deer. Opponents of the plan say that the deer will just have more fawn and replace any animals that are harvested through hunting. The Iowa City city council will discuss their weekly meeting next Tuesday night.
