August is often called 'The Dog Days of Summer'. While July gets all the headlines with family vacations and the 4th of July holiday, August gets saddled with back-to-school shopping. It's simply not fair!

Speaking of 'fair', the Iowa State Fair is just one of the many things that Iowans can look forward to during the month of August. This year's Iowa State Fair runs August 7th through the 17th. There will be plenty of great entertainment to see, and of course, some amazing foods to devour!

And while the kids might not be happy about it, August also means back to school. College students will move in around the middle of the month, with public school students heading back around August 25th.

Our daughters, Carly and Cayleigh, will be in their junior and sophomore years at Marion High School. Our son Chase will be at Iowa State University in Ames after attending Kirkwood Community College for two years. The house will be quiet when classes resume!
