Illinois Man Arrested for Murder at Cedar Rapids Convenience Store

A 24-year-old man whose last known address was in the Quad Cities has been arrested in a Cedar Rapids murder from October of 2019.

Todd R. Jenkins was arrested by the United States Marshals Service-Great Lakes Regional Task Force Thursday, March 26 at a hotel in Aurora, Illinois. A media release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department says Jenkins tried to escape via a second-story window at the hotel before being apprehended at approximately 7:40 p.m.

Jenkins has been charged with First Degree Murder and Going Armed with Intent in the death of 27-year-old Reginald Ward of Moline, Illinois. Ward died from gunshot wounds sustained on October 30, 2019, at the Cedar Rapids Kum and Go at 3132 1st Ave. NE.

A criminal complaint in the case, filed by the Linn County Attorney's Office, says Jenkins drove to Cedar Rapids with a loaded weapon. He allegedly waited outside the home of a former girlfriend. When Ward left the residence, authorities say Jenkins became involved in a road rage incident with Ward and his girlfriend and Jenkins then shot Ward at the Kum & Go. Authorities then say he fled back to the Quad Cities. Surveillance video and witnesses helped identify Jenkins as the shooter.

Jenkins is currently being held in the Kendall County Jail in Illinois on other charges. He will eventually be extradited to the Linn County Jail on the two charges in the Cedar Rapids shooting.
