Hy-Vee food stores continues to help out the Cedar Rapids community following the August 10th derecho. Now, they'll be handing out free food and water this week to storm victims who still need help.

According to a press release from Hy-Vee, they have partnered with several of their suppliers including Just Bare chicken breasts, snack maker Schar, and Nestle water, to hand out the free food and water to Cedar Rapids residents on Thursday, September 3rd. Hy-Vee officials say that their supply partners have stepped up and made a wonderful donation to help residents continue to recover from the storm. The donation equals more than $62,000 in products and fills three semi trailers! One filled with water, another filled with chicken breasts, and still another filled with bread and snack products.

The free contactless food giveaway will happen tomorrow, September 3rd, at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids. Residents can pick up their free food and beverages from noon until 2 p.m. or while supplies last. Veteran's Memorial Stadium is located at 950 Rockford Road S.W. in Cedar Rapids.

A big thank you to the great people at Hy-Vee. They've been out handing out supplies to people in need since the storm hit three weeks ago. I'm happy to see some of their suppliers step in and donate so much food and water to the cause! If you are in the Cedar Rapids surrounding area and need food and water, please stop out tomorrow between noon and 2 p.m.!
