If you are in the market for a job, there are numerous companies out there that are competing for your services by offering high starting wages. One of those companies is Hobby Lobby. The company announced Tuesday that as of January 1st, 2022, they will be raising their minimum wage for hourly workers.

Hobby Lobby is set to raise its minimum hourly wage to $18.50 an hour starting January 1st. According to USA Today, that is a $1.50 higher than the last increase in the minimum wage for the company they enacted back in October of 2020. Hobby Lobby was one of the first national retailers to establish a minimum hourly wage that was well above the national minimum wage. The company has raised that hourly wage 12 times over the past 13 years, according to USA Today. The store raised its minimum wage to $15 an hour back in 2014.

Hobby Lobby founder and CEO David Green said, "We have a long track record of taking care of our employees", and that the company has "worked hard over the past several years to provide the best wages and benefits in retail". Last October, the company announced plans to hire 11,0000 seasonal employees and raised their hourly rates by 18% according to USA Today.

Hobby Lobby has over 900 stores nationwide including locations in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Waterloo, and Dubuque.
