History Of ACM Awards Hosts Through the Years

Tonight is the 51st Annual Academy of Country Music Awards otherwise know as the ACM's. It's got quite a history and has seen a variety of hosts, one of which presided over the proceedings for almost two decades.

The ACM's started in 1965 and the first six years were not televised. ABC was the first to televise them in 1972 and the host for the first two televised years was Dick Clark. Before the ACM's hit television in '72, a variety of entertainers hosted including Lorne Greene from Bonanza, Pat Buttram from Green Acres, and Buddy Ebsen from The Beverly Hillbillies.

Reba McEntire has hosted the show more than anyone else... she's hosted/co-hosted an incredible 18 times. Blake Shelton and the King of Country Music, George Strait, have both hosted/co-hosted the ACM's five times each.
