A Midwest ice cream company that first opened during the 1930s is celebrating a big birthday this week with a special ice cream and some amazing prices!

For residents of Eastern Iowa, especially near the Quad Cities, ice cream in Iowa can be summed up in one word. Whitey's. The renowned Iowa ice cream company is celebrating its 90th anniversary. WQAD reports that the very first Whitey's location opened in 1933 when Chester Lindgren opened up his first store in Moline. That location was actually a convenience store that also sold ice cream. Years later Lindgren would sell Whitey's to the Tunburg family who own the ice cream chain to this day.

In celebration of 90 years of serving ice cream, Whitey's is having a special sale this week only. Whitey's will be offering 90-cent cones all week through May 21st! That price is good at all Whitey's locations. You can even add a second scoop for another 90 cents! They'll also have special 90th-anniversary merchandise available and will be serving a special 90th birthday cake shake!

Jeff Tunberg, co-owner of Whitey's, said that "We have had a wonderful 90 years of business in the Quad Cities, Having this cone sale is our way to say thank you and give back to the community that has given our company so much." Whitey's has Iowa locations in Davenport, Bettendorf, and Eldridge. Stop by one this week and celebrate an amazing 90 years!
