Hiawatha Man Narrowly Missed $293 Million Dollar Jackpot [PHOTO]
He was only one number away from becoming a multi-millionaire.
Robert Murphy of Hiawatha played the Mega Millions contest on Tuesday, with a jackpot of $293 million. He got four of the first five numbers and the Mega Ball... yes, he missed only one number garnering him a $5,000 prize. No, he won much more than that! He also had added the Megaplier, so his winnings jumped to $25,000.
Murphy told the Iowa Lottery he checked the number on his phone while working Tuesday night. He said “I saw the Mega Ball was ‘6’ and I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s not bad.’ Then I said, ‘I got a number.’ Then I’m like, ‘Oh, I’ve got another number. Then I found I had three numbers so I was going to look and see what it paid. Then I got to looking and I go, ‘Well shoot, I’ve got four numbers plus the Mega Ball.'”
The only number Murphy didn't match was number 37. He had 19.
Murphy bought his ticket at the Road Ranger at 2349 Blairs Ferry Road Northeast in Cedar Rapids. And yes, he'll be playing again Friday night when the Mega Millions jackpot is estimated at $310 million!
