Lighted Holiday Parade Hits the Streets of Hiawatha Tonight
It's hard to imagine a better December day for a parade than the one that will greet those attending in Hiawatha tonight. It will be considerably warmer than it's been for any of the previous three.
According to our weather partner, KCRG TV-9, it should be in the low 40s when the Holiday Lights Parade begins in Hiawatha this afternoon. You won't need nearly as heavy of a coat as the past three years. Weather Underground shows the temperature last year (December 15) was about 27. In 2021 (December 16), the parade stepped off with a temperature of around 32. In 2020 (December 7), temperatures were near 30.
On November 30, the city lit the holiday tree in Village Center Plaza, along Emmons Street and Center Point Road.
Tonight, the streets will be lit with floats and more during the 4th Annual Holiday Lights Parade. It will include both Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. The route is below.
*The parade will begin at 5:30 and is expected to end shortly after 6:30 this evening.
The City of Hiawatha Parks and Recreation Department says there are a pair of parks that make great viewing spots:
- 10th Avenue parking lot of Guthridge Park. The park is located at 704 Emmons Street and sits between 7th and 10th Avenue. You can get directions here.
- Tucker Park at 101 B Avenue. Directions are available here.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your family. May your season be filled with friends, family, and love.
