This one goes out to all my fellow early raisers out there. The fog this year has been super heavy and has created a wall of low-lying clouds. I myself struggle driving in it sometimes, that's how bad it is this year.

Here are some quick tips or reminders for driving in the fog.

These safety tips are made possible thanks to the National Weather Service.

1. Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination. This one is a no-brainer, but nice to be reminded.

2. Make your vehicle visible to others both ahead of you and behind you by using your low-beam headlights since this means your taillights will also be on. Use fog lights if you have them. Always a good idea to help out your fellow drivers too

3. Never use your high-beam lights. Using high beam lights causes glare, making it more difficult for you to see what’s ahead of you on the road. Another one we all pretty much new, but always good to get a reminder.

4. Leave plenty of distance between you and the vehicle in front of you to account for sudden stops or changes in the traffic pattern. Just like with snow.

5. In extremely dense fog where visibility is near zero, the best course of action is to first turn on your hazard lights, then simply pull into a safe location such as a parking lot of a local business and stop. With how things are going this year, we may have to do this.

What even is Fog?

A basic definition is as follows:

Fog is a visible aerosol consisting of tiny water droplets or ice crystals suspended in the air at or near the Earth's surface. Fog can be considered a type of low-lying cloud usually resembling stratus, and is heavily influenced by nearby bodies of water, topography, and wind conditions
