Two years ago, Teresa Shaw was battling cancer. During the day, she underwent a chemo treatment. That night, she made a sign and went to see Garth Brooks in concert. Her life was changed forever.

Teresa is from Mason City and was battling breast cancer during the fall of 2014 when she attended the Garth show at the Target Center in Minneapolis. She made a sign to take to the show. It read: “Chemo this morning. Garth Tonight. Enjoying 'The Dance.'" Garth noticed:

She did indeed kick cancer's ass. Shaw is now officially in remission from triple-negative breast cancer. She told the Des Moines Register, "I survived. It made me realize … you never know what’s gonna happen in your life and whose path you’re going to come across. I would get messages from people saying “you’re so inspiring,” and I felt like I was just a normal person.”

Since her first meeting with Garth, she's been giving speeches about her encounter with the country legend and has volunteered with Realy for Life. She also hopes to be an American Cancer Society volunteer and work with breast cancer patients.

You may have noticed I said first meeting, above. Yes, Teresa and Garth appeared on television together afterward, but they've also met behind the scenes. Shaw talked to Garth at an Omaha show and she said, “It was like talking to just an ordinary, everyday person. He was so easy to talk to and I felt so comfortable. You just get the feeling (that) you can sit there and talk to him about anything.”

That night in Omaha, Mother's Day of 2015, Garth also gave Shaw her poster back. He had autographed it. She also got flowers from Garth's crew. She reflected on that night to the Des Moines Register saying, "It was like meeting a friend … just a friend. He gave me a big hug and asked how I was doing.”

Teresa is planning on saying hello to Garth again this weekend. Below, she reflects on everything that's happened since the fall of 2014.

It's not just the music that has made Garth such an incredible success over the years. It's his genuineness. Garth Brooks is quite a man and I can't wait to see him again this weekend. Tens of thousands are right there with me.
