Iowa Twins Added to Outstanding Iowa State Wrestling Class

One of America's top-ranked collegiate wrestling classes added two more important pieces as Iowa twins committed to hit the mat for the Iowa State Cyclones.

Just over a year ago, Evan and Jacob Frost were making news in their home state of Louisiana. The Sugar Bowl recognized them as the Greater New Orleans Amateur Athletes of the Month early last year. And for good reason.

Both Evan and Jacob won three straight state wrestling titles in Louisiana, wrestling for Holy Cross High School in New Orleans. During the 2021 state tournament, they combined for 8 pins in their 12 matches. Before their senior season, they decided to make the move to Iowa. The Des Moines Register reports that was likely helped along when Ryak Finch, who was an assistant coach at Holy Cross, became the head coach at Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines. The Frost brothers followed Finch, and their record of success continued.

Evan Frost won his fourth state championship this past winter, winning the 132-pound weight class in Des Moines to cap a season that saw him go 34-1. Jacob Frost was 32-2 on the year and made the state title match at 138-pounds.

The twins, who both will be going after degrees in engineering, had originally committed to Columbia. When they found out they couldn't do that in their first year at that school, they reconsidered their wrestling future. Now, both are headed to Ames, Iowa.

The Frost brothers are two more pieces to a 2022 recruiting class that had previously been ranked by MatScouts as the 2nd-best in the country, behind only Ohio State.

There's no question that 2 hours to the east, at the University of Iowa, they're taking note of the turnaround being made by Cyclone coach Kevin Dresser. Dresser, a 1986 national champion while wrestling for Iowa, led the Cyclones to a 15-1 dual meet record last season. Their only loss was to Iowa. It was Iowa State's first season with only one dual meet loss since 1985-86. The Cyclones won their last national title the very next season, in 1987.
