Four Local Theatre Companies are Doing a Virtual Cabaret Saturday
We may not be able to go see live shows in-person right now, but at least we have the internet! According to Broadway World, four local theatre companies are coming together for another virtual performance this weekend.
'Songs to Make You Smile: A Virtual Encore' will feature more than 50 local performers from Theatre Cedar Rapids, Old Creamery Theatre in Amana, the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts, and Riverside Theatre. It will premiere this Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. on YouTube, with viewers encouraged to make a donation. The article states:
"Viewers are invited to make a minimum donation of $5.00 with proceeds divided evenly among the participating theatres. The link to the performance will be emailed to donors and made available on social media and the Old Creamery Theatre website (www.oldcreamery.com) the day of the show."
This is actually the second time these theatres are putting on a virtual show. The first one happened on April 3rd and was wildly successful, raising around $17,000. The goal this time around is $5,000, and the donation website says they are already halfway to their goal, which is great news! If you'd like to donate, you can click HERE.
The main income for many of these local theatres is ticket sales, but with no current shows to sell tickets to, times are challenging. Old Creamery Theatre just recently canceled all of their 2020 shows, asking ticket-holders to consider donating the price of their already-purchased tickets back to the organization. If you are a lover of the arts and you have a few extra bucks to spare, it might be worth it to make a donation to one of these groups so that they can survive.
