Former Iowa Tight Ends Combine For FIVE Touchdowns [WATCH]
If there was any doubt as to which college football team is Tight End U., two former Iowa Hawkeyes sealed the deal on Sunday as they combined for five...yes, FIVE touchdown catches for their NFL teams!
Let's start with rookie Sam LaPorta. The former Iowa tight end now starts for the Detroit Lions who hosted the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. LaPorta had three catches for 47 yards. However, two of those catches went for touchdowns. LaPorta continues to play at a historic pace. According to the Lions, he is now only the 2nd tight end in NFL history to post at least 275 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns within his first 5 career NFL games.
LaPorta is the real deal and so are the Lions as they sit atop the NFC North standings and are clearly one of the best teams in the conference. But the best team in the NFC resides in the California Bay area. The San Francisco 49ers toppled the Dallas Cowboys last night 42-10. The Niners got a huge game from former Cyclone Brock Purdy as he threw four touchdown passes. But the night belonged to former Iowa tight end George Kittle. Prior to the Dallas game, Kittle hadn't caught a touchdown pass all year. Sunday night, he went for a hat trick!
Kittle's line from last night? Three catches...all for touchdowns. It was a perfect nightcap on another outstanding day for graduates of Tight End U.
