Brock Purdy's amazing run as the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers came to an end in the NFC Championship game. Purdy suffered an elbow injury that didn't allow him the ability to throw the ball. After a diagnosis of a torn UCL ligament in his right elbow, surgery was recommended for a full recovery. That surgery has now been put on hold.

Yahoo is reporting that Dr. Keith Meister, the surgeon who is set to perform the surgery on Purdy, recommends the procedure be postponed.

The reason for the delay? There is apparently still some swelling in Purdy's elbow. Yahoo reports that the two sides will meet again in early March and see if plans to move forward with the surgery are on again.

But some are concerned that by pushing back the surgery, Purdy might not be ready for 49er training camp. The original timeline had Purdy fully healed in about six months. Yahoo reports that he could resume throwing three months after surgery and could fully rejoin his teammates after six months. That would be before the start of training camp in July. Team officials say that the delay shouldn't significantly affect the original timeline.

Purdy is still expected to be healthy for the start of the 2023 season. He is expected to compete with Trey Lance for the starting quarterback position in the Bay.
