The Iowa men's basketball program will have a hole to fill this off-season. Filip Rebraca will graduate and Kris Murray is expected to declare for the NBA Draft. We also learned yesterday that two Iowa players are leaving via the transfer portal, including big man Josh Ogundele. The Hawkeyes will get some size in freshman Owen Freeman and Ladji Dembele this fall, but they could use someone with some college experience. It appears help is on the way.

Rivals.com reports that sources close to the Belmont men's basketball program are reporting that former Iowa City West prep and Belmont center Even Brauns will transfer back to Iowa City and the University of Iowa. Brauns definitely has the size the Hawkeyes are in search of, coming in at 6'9" and 240 pounds. In his first year as a starter at Belmont, Rivals reports that Brauns averaged 7 points, five rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game.

Rivals reports that while Brauns has not made the announcement official, he has reportedly told teammates he is leaving Belmont. Brauns would have two years of eligibility left at Iowa, and would join former Iowa City West teammate Patrick McCaffery. While with IC West, Brauns averaged nearly 16 points and 8 rebounds per game. Rivals reports that he had college offers from Drake and Northern Iowa while teams like Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, and Wisconsin all showed interest.

Brauns will add size and some much-needed experience along the Iowa frontcourt. Welcome back to Iowa City!
