Sad news to report today from Oskaloosa, Iowa. Former great Iowa Hawkeye Football player Tyler Sash has died. No details have been released on the cause of his death.

Sash, 27, starred for Oskaloosa High School as a multi-sport athlete before committing to Iowa to play football for the Hawkeyes. Tyler decided to forgo his senior season at Iowa and was drafted in the 6th round of the 2011 NFL draft to the New York Giants. He played in Super Bowl XLVI when the Giants defeated the New England Patriots 21-17.

Though not confirmed, it appears that Kirk Ferentz' weekly press conference has been postponed due to Sash's death. At 1:40 this afternoon, the University of Iowa Sports Information Department released this statement: "Due to a private issue regarding the Iowa football program, unrelated to game preparation, Coach Ferentz’ weekly press conference has been rescheduled for 2:15 p.m., CT, on Wednesday, Sept. 9."

Our prayers go out to the Sash family, friends and everyone connected with Hawkeye football on this shocking loss.
