Former Cedar Rapids Teacher to Appear on Dr. Phil [VIDEO]
The former Cedar Rapids substitute teacher who admits to a sexual relationship with one of her former students says, "I am the victim."
Mary Beth Haglin, now 24, was a substitute teacher in the Cedar Rapids Community School District but was fired earlier this year after her relationship with a 17-year-old student was uncovered.
On today's Dr. Phil show Haglin will claim, "The student is the one who seduced me. I am the victim." She says he came on to her via texts, hand-written notes, and in other ways. She tells Dr. Phil, "He did so with such intelligence and such an elevated vocabulary that I was completely duped by the whole facade." She also says, "When things got way out of control, and I wanted out, he began saying 'I will light a match and burn your life down."
Haglin was fired five months ago and this summer was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor, a misdemeanor. If convicted, she faces up to two years in prison.
In my mind, her continued television appearances certainly won't help her defense.
