Federal Grant Money For Iowa Airports Struggling During COVID
In case you haven't noticed, airline travel is down right now, too.
Social distancing is happening everywhere and most states have some form of partial or full lockdown underway. That means no one is going anywhere and airports everywhere, including here in Iowa, are struggling.
The United States Department of Transportation announced via a press release earlier this week, that nearly $10 billion in grants will be spread out to airports across the country to ease their current situation.
KCRG breaks down the numbers locally. Here's how it looks:
- The Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids will obtain over $22 million in grant funds. In
- Dubuque and Waterloo would get just over $1 million.
- Iowa City and Muscatine get $69,000
- Clinton, Decorah, Marshalltown, Monticello, and Muscatine among others get $30,000.
Check out the full list of airports receiving these funds and their amounts here. KCRG reports that much of the funding will be used for "rent, payroll and utilities", and of course to keep the planes in the air "shipping crucial medical and healthcare supplies."
