Where is Balloon Glow being held?

Just like last year, Balloon Glow will be taking over Jones Park in Cedar Rapids.

How much is it to get in?

The event is free if you already have a Freedom Festival Button. If you don't have one, they will be available for purchase at the gate for $10. Buttons are free for ages five and under.

Where do I park?

Parking at Jones Park will be very limited, so organizers are recommending parking off-site and taking a shuttle to the event. Shuttle pick-up and drop-off will be at the Kirkwood Continuing Education Training Center at 101 50th Ave SW in Cedar Rapids. Pedal Power will also be giving rides to and from the park, as well as a limited number of golf carts.

Will there be food and drinks?

Yes! There will be various food and drink vendors on-site, but outside food and drinks are allowed into the park. Alcohol is permitted, but will not be sold on-site. It's also important to note that there is NO glass allowed. Food and drinks can be brought in soft-side coolers, but bags and coolers will be checked prior to entry.

Can I bring my dog?

No, there are no pets allowed at this event. And while we're on the topic of things NOT allowed, smoking and fireworks (including sparklers) are also prohibited.

What is the entertainment line-up for the event?

First on stage Day’s Live Music, a Tennessee-native that sings country, classic rock, and pop. Second is the 34th Army Band’s Rock Group, 42 Romeo, which plays a little bit of everything. And finally, the Bamboozlers will take the stage to play classic rock and country staples.

When will the balloons be lit up?

As long as the weather cooperates, the balloons will be inflated around dusk and the caution tape will be removed so guests can get up close and personal with the balloons and balloonists. Organizers also have an important note for attendees: "balloons are not a guarantee. Every effort will go into having balloons, but safety is our #1 priority." Weather updates and cancellations will be posted on social media.

Cedar Rapids Balloon Glow 2022

Balloon Glow 2022 was a huge success for the Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival! Here are some photos from this year's event!

The Lions and Dogs of Brucemore Mansion

Howard Hall and his wife Margaret moved into Cedar Rapids' Brucemore mansion in 1937. Over the course of 14 years, they owned three lions, all named Leo. Below are photos of those lions, and the family's German Shepherds.
