Playtime Poppy Children’s Theatre FREE Summer Theatre Adventure Auditions

Playtime Poppy Children’s Theatre invites area youth ages 7–14 to audition for their free Summer Theatre Adventure. Auditions will be held on June 4 at 1pm at the Whipple Auditorium in the Cedar Rapids Public Library. Auditions will be short readings from the script in small groups—no preparation is needed; material will be provided. Students should arrive at 1:15 to the doors of Whipple Auditorium. Parents are welcome to assist in filling out contact forms and then stay to observe the auditions. Students will be dismissed following their audition.

Playtime Poppy’s Summer Theatre Adventure is a week-long immersive theatre experience to engage youth with theatre, culture, and community. There are no fees for the participants. The group will create “It’s Complicated: Fairy Tales from the Ukrainian Steppes,” written and directed by Darrin Crow and with Technical Direction by Robin Crow. The play will take audiences on an adventure into Ukrainian fairy tales, including “The Straw Ox,” “The Fisherman’s Son,” and “The Unlucky Days.”

The Summer Theatre Adventure will be held at the Whipple Auditorium in the Cedar Rapids Public Library. Rehearsals will be July 10–14 from 9:15am– 12:15pm. The community is invited to attend 2 free performances July 14 at 5:30pm and 7:30pm.
