We're a week away from Christmas and all is brown around eastern Iowa. Today's high temperature is expected to be in the upper 40's. The chances of a white Christmas are as good as dead, right? Wrong.

Two weather systems are likely to roll through the state in the next seven days. The first storm arrives Thursday and Friday, according to our weather partner, CBS 2. That storm appears to be a wet one for us, as in rain. High temps both days are expected to hover around 40. That's not going to turn anything white.

However, that white Christmas could still arrive, albeit very last minute. Snow could begin falling on Sunday... Christmas Eve. It's not great timing for travel, but perfect timing for a holiday blanketed in white. Any precipitation that falls will almost certainly be snow as the high temperature in Cedar Rapids on Sunday (Christmas Eve) is expected to be only in the mid-20's. The National Weather Service currently puts the chances of snow at 50 percent.

Don't give up on that white Christmas just yet. Oh, and enjoy today's temperatures. The high in Cedar Rapids a year ago today (December 18, 2016) was a big, fat ZERO.
